Calgary Man Killed
by Grizzly Bear
51 year old hunter from Calgary was found dead and investigors have
confi rmed that he was attacked and killed by a grizzly bear. He was
out hunting and didn’t return home and an extensive search from
authorities found him dead just 200 meters from his vehicle. Don Peters, an
avid hunter, was hunting near Sundry, Alberta when apparently he crossed
a grizzly bear. Authorities are thinking that he was trying to make it back to
his truck. They discovered that one shot from his rifl e had been discharged
and that he went down fi ghting.
Don had a tree stand in the area. The weather was very cold and
snowy and the attack occurred in a heavily wooded area. He did not return
on Sunday and a search was conducted, taking three days to fi nd him.
Authorities are still in search of the grizzly bear and have hair samples from
the bear to match DNA. Although most bears are hibernating this time of
year, warm weather or hunger can easily wake them from their slumber.
